Publishing and Dramatization History
Publishing: First published in 1924 by Bodley Head in London, and by Dodd, Mead & Co. in New York. TV: Adapted by CBS Television in 1989, and featured Edward Woodward, Tony Randall, Rue McClanahan and Ken Howard in major roles. The film updated the setting and characters to a contemporary period.

Notes and reviews
The novel contains an unusual structure: narrative chapters are alternated with chapters identified as ‘Extracts from the diary of Sir Eustace, M.P.’ and ‘Anne’s Narrative Resumed’.

Murder method
One electrocution after the victim is pushed onto the Tube rails, one stabbing.
